Summer slowdowns are real, but they are not always innocent, and the leaders who use the season as an explanation for every dip in engagement miss a pattern that deserves a harder look. When one person on your team seems checked out, it might be personal; when the whole team seems checked out, the question worth asking is what they all have in common, and the answer is almost always the environment they are operating in. Seasonal fatigue looks like reduced energy; systemic disengagement looks like reduced investment, and the difference matters enormously for how you respond. If the issue is the season, it will pass; if the issue is something structural about how your team is led, supported, or valued, it will not.
